What do you need to run a horse boarding facility?
A neighbor of mine wants to start shipping horses. He knows almost everything about the horses, but is a bit new to boarding horses.I not know much about horses.I have worked with them in the past, but agriculture now.Anyways my question is: What all needs you, besides horses and a stable, water, pasture, feed, fencing .. . to run a boarding facility. Can someone decides to start a business of horses when want? I ask because I do not know if my neighbor can do it or not.
You have to see if you can operate that business on his property, and may have to get zoning changed. Go to the county clerk to know that. You will need to have a business license, and insurance. You may want to find out if incorporated or a single owner, according to the laws where you are, some offer more protection against lawsuits. In the United States, can never give neglect. They should also take into account what local laws say about negligence. In New Mexico, where I live, there are some state protections for operators, trainers and horse owners against certain types of claims, and that horses are inherently dangerous. You may have signs posted on the property. And definitely get an accountant or bookkeeper to help you find ways to make taxes and fees provided for shipment. Also consider if you want to let the coaches come to the property or not. It's a lot of things, but once it is in place, if you do it right the first time, not too bad to continue.
