Because so few individuals survived every calamity fell on race, genetic diversity of race has declined severely, and some alleles were lost completely, possibly including the AA and A alleles at the agouti locus. The race passed through what is called a genetic bottleneck, when the wild-type allele at the site seems to be dun been lost, so now all the horses are dun Fjord Norway. In this race the dun allele is therefore only the allele at the locus and is said to be fixed (ie, frequency is 100%).
