Is it correct to use chips of various trees to bed my stables?

He had big plans for the use of wood chips in my company friends tree service to the bed of my audience. One of my friends who runs a barn, said some common trees are poisonous to horses and cause them ill. She even said they would pine wrong? Is this true? I'm all about saving using the free program (well, though quality) chips, but not so if for a second I thought I would be risking my babies. Thoughts money?

Your friend is right, unfortunately! Oak, walnut, redwood all are toxic to horses, just to name a few. Here's a site that lists of toxic plants: http://www.horsecareonline.net/ToxicPlants.htm
