Colic: Humans and horses

Colic is a problem that humans and horses share. But unlike babies, of which Colic is a problem only incidental that disappears after a few months, colic in horses is a serious problem that must be addressed immediately.

Baby Colic

Colic is a problem in the digestive tract is characterized by pain in the stomach or abdomen. So far, there is not reason why this occurs in babies. Experts believe that colic is due to the gas in the intestines. In babies, colic starts as early as three weeks.

The first symptoms, of course, be frequent crying and screaming that can last from one hour to five hours without stopping. Peaking during the second month and decreases the third month. At the end of the fourth month, cases of colic will cease.

And although there's really poses much danger that colic babies, parents are concerned because the amount of crying that can result. Because there is no known cause, there is also no specific cure or solution. In fact, all you can do parents is to make your experience colic as painless as possible. This is done by putting babies in comfortable positions and in diapers, make them walk or hear something relaxing music. Parents should avoid giving the food too because it will only worsen the problem.

Horse colic

In colicky horses is not the same. Besides being a serious problem, colic in horses can occur at any time and any age. The same reactions are raised in horses. They will also be weeping and wailing, jumping and kicking all over the place. In severe cases, may even become so wild that they will assume positions difficult unnatural and almost only to be revived the pain.

However, horse owners should remember that colic in horses has a very different beginning. In contrast to humans where you can easily feel the pain and displayed by crying, the horses will take care of itself through apathy and lack of energy.

They begin to refuse food and has no appetite to eat. This is one of the signs that horse owners tend to lose when it comes to dealing with colic. Remember they will only wild and restless when the pain is too severe for them to bear. Otherwise, only suffer silent.

Wired differently

The horses can not cope with colic in the same way humans can. Due to different body structure and body system are not able to vomit or relieve the pressure felt in the stomach. Because of this, the pain and the problem can build up inside, so it makes things worse. Maybe that's why colic in horses is much more serious. In fact, while some horses respond to treatment and, eventually, get well, most will deteriorate despite medication and treatment.

Another reason that colic is a problem with the horses is the fact that are built in different ways. Excerpts from the blood and food in their bodies are much narrower and therefore more susceptible to deductions and obstacles especially with food.

When suffering from colic, it is important that you call a veterinarian as soon as possible so you can manage appropriate treatment. Also make sure that your horse has no access to solid foods, such as hay or grass. The only thing that the horse is allowed to take in the water.
