A Horse Course, of course, to rescue workers
While trying to contain a tragic accident site in Long Island last month when a horse trailer disconnected from his truck, rescue workers was totally inappropriate to attempt to handle the wounded and dying horses. Clearly they had no experience with large animals, and some were moved to tears when explaining how they felt powerless.
To remedy this situation and to prepare rescue workers to handle horses in emergency situations, Connecticut Horse Council began Horse911 project-a series of workshops aimed at teaching about basic fire Connecticut horse handling techniques while promoting fire prevention and the preparation of the barn owners.
According to a recent article in the Enquirer Connecticut, more than 70 firefighters from six fire stations Connecticut attended a recent three-hour workshop on saving horses from barn fires. With the help of horsepeople out, firefighters learned how to handle, especially Lead colli and nervous horses amid the noise and bright lights emanating from the fire trucks.
The facilitators described the behavior of horse and anatomy so that the firefighters who have an understanding about how a horse is affected by smoke inhalation or their reluctance to flee a burning barn. Facilitators workshop in the hope that the training will help firefighters feel comfortable handling horses in different situations as a barn fire as loose horses or in the case of an accident towing.
Horse911 The project is conducted in partnership with the Connecticut Horse Council, the career fire chief of the Association, Connecticut State Fire Academy Response Team and animal Connecticut. In addition to providing training for firefighters, the Connecticut Horse Council also offers seminars on fire prevention and emergency response for horse owners and stable. At the request of the owner of a barn, the Council can also arrange for an inspection of the fire chief of a local farm area for additional security procedures and fire prevention practices.
The Connecticut Horse Council began in 1969 to defeat the proposed legislation that would have banned the use of bits and spurs. Since then, the group has been involved in all areas relevant to the horse industry in Connecticut. The motto of the council is "Riders United in Leadership, Service and Education."
Given the spate of accidents and loose horse trailer around the country, Connecticut has the right idea to get your fire area of people more knowledgeable about horses. It is hoped that the associations of horses across the nation to find such horses Connecticut Council initiatives.
