The Water Horse â € "the monster and I
Things like the myths and legends usually have some basis in fact. Often it is only by the moral of the story but somehow there will always be, even if only a bit, a part that really existed. If the legendary monster of Loch Ness in Scotland there is, "The Water Horse "imagines what might have become.
The film is based on the novel by Dick King-Smith and is predominantly set during World War II World. An elderly gentleman says to a young couple on a photo of the Loch Ness monster hung in a local bar. While the picture is a fake, the monster is a monster at all and so begins the story: A young Scotsman named Angus MacMorrow (Alex Etel) brings home a rather large stone and dirt that is on the beach. Soon realizes that this is a magic egg, and is building a cute little sea creature he calls Crusoe.
Angus's family lives in a Scottish mansion mass and rather empty. On the day of his discovery of the magic egg, a whole battalion of English appears at her door and begins to spread out. The battalion mounts guard over the local lake to invade submarines.
That same day, a new handyman named Lewis Mowbray (Ben Chaplin) begins its work at the mansion. After his small first row, Mr. Mowbray plays the role of a father figure in the place of the late Mr. MacMorrow whose boat had sunk at sea a year above.
As Crusoe grows to be abnormally large in a short period of time, begins to be a problem to keep it secret. When Angus and his older sister Kristie finally get into a bind with Crusoe, Lewis decided to stop there. Lewis recognizes Crusoe as the creature of legend. As legend there is a magic horse that water is both male and women. There is only one time in the world at any given time and when it reaches the end of his life, establishing a single egg and then passes away of old age before the new egg hatches. The egg is always taken by a child.
Well, the war takes its toll on households and Crusoe, which has now been moved to the lagoon by the fact that he is as big as a skyscraper. Local people began to notice the giant creature and gossip begins to float around. The soldiers begin to see enemies in every corner Crusoe and becomes violent of all attacks. It is up to Angus to find a solution to save the mythical creature and ensure that the legend continues.
I think this movie shows that sometimes they assume the worst when we find things that are not used. Miscommunication can be fatal, as always, and of course, war achieves nothing but death. And yet there are always stories and legends to follow the path and give us hope that the magical creatures actually exist.
