Published: August 9, 2006
Curiously, most British buyers of Portuguese property concentration in the crowded, littered fields Golf-Algarve, known for being home to some of the most expensive coastal property in Europe.
However, the head in rural areas away from the coast of New built and old houses are embodied in and around charming, attractive old Portuguese villages at a fraction of the cost. Finding them may take a little longer since there are very few buyers agents aimed at speaking English, but it's worth the effort.
And on the Alentejo:
Moving south, the landscape of Alentejo, the province's largest and most relaxed of Portugal, is another underdeveloped area rich in cheap properties. About an hour's drive east of Lisbon, the region is well preserved, historic capital of Évora, declared by UNESCO as a world heritage area "has a splendid architecture.

The Alentejo region is known for its traditional crafts, fine cheeses and excellent wines. Walking, cycling, water sports, fishing and horseback riding are popular.
It's a little strange that the West does not mention the virgin Alentejo coast 160 km. Tourism here is developing rapidly, but it is a protected area, no building allowed on the coast. So this area will continue to be so beautiful as it is.
The rich cultural heritage of Portugal and in this specific area makes it even more interesting to invest in property here. There is only offer than just sea and beautiful scenery. Places like Evora, (in the list of Unesco World Heritage Site) and Beja are worthwhile a visit to discover its ancient history. Almograve and Vila Nova de Milfontes are people most famous beach area, but there are many more beautiful beaches and trendy beach bars and restaurants serving good food.
Inland is the fifth wine, a visit to the country and of course some wine tasting is a wonderful introduction into the world of Portuguese wines. Many of them are award-winning wines, wait to be one of the most famous. Portugal has many wonderful Pousadas, hotels partially owned by the State, located in old castles, monasteries and other historic sites.
The discovery of this part of Portugal can stay in one of these luxurious hotels or choose from the cheapest. There are a lot. Of course, you will find hotels or B & B owned by foreigners that began a new life in Portugal and that life with a new business. This number continues to increase and welcomed by the Portuguese.
